Lyman Beecher was a Presbyterian minister and is remembered today because of the accomplishments of his children, one of which was the abolitionist preacher, Henry Ward Beecher, and the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe. Beecher thought that morality was very important in the upkeep of a Republican government and was an influential advocate of moral reform. "We may form free constitutions, but our vices will destroy them; we may enact laws, but they will not protect us." -Lyman Beecher

The American Colonization Society
ReplyDeleteThe Society praises you for raising such great kids. Your kids did a lot for the Abolition Movement. Our Society also believes in giving slaves a better life. We believe this can happen in Africa instead of America.

Greetings Father!
ReplyDeleteThank you for teaching me how to stand up for what I believe in. You had a strong influence on me and that made me into the woman that I am today. I too have a strong passion for abolishing slavery. Slavery is morally wrong and, like you always said, morality is very important in the upkeep of a republican government. I strive to become an advocate of the abolitionist movement just like you!

ReplyDeleteSir you are right in that that thinking mortality is an important thing in life. what you may not know is that alcohol is a big reason people are being immoral. you would be a great person to join the movement.

ReplyDeleteYou and your family are known for so much in our countries history. You played a major role in preaching the good news to all. We have similar views on our countries government. I too am a republican and believe in the upkeep of morality, to be able to obtain a sound and strong government. Thanks again for what you have done for our country.

Mr. Beecher, even through all your hateful comments and threats I still respect your view on morality. Your conservative tactics are quite appalling, you should try some of my New Measures. By the way, I will preach in Connecticut if i please.
