Edgar was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston.  Edgar Allan Poe was known as a famous poet during the literary renaissance. During this time Poe mainly published macabre short stories and detective tales. Around Poe made his first publication of  a book of short stories called the Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque. The only payment he received for this book was twenty- five free copies of it.
Poe was also very determined in suing  people who took credit of his work. With this he became very helpful in forming the copyright law. In 1844 Poe moved to New York and in order to gain some publicity he claimed to have come to New York by a balloon trip.  In 1845 Poe published "the Raven" making him a widely known author. He was attracting large crowds when he gave lectures and he published the Cask of Amontillado one year after the Raven.
Pursuing his dream Poe became the owner of a magazine which he bought from the Broadway Journal. This was one of Poe's biggest failures. Rumors about Poe's failure, his wife having tuberculosis, and him possibly being with a married women forced Poe to move to the country to get away from the city. There during the winter his wife died causing him to go into a depression. Poe did not write or really do anything from then on. Many assumed he was already, but he eventually died two years later at the young age of twenty- four. Poe was a very famous contributor to the literary renaissance with his detective tales and short stories.

  1. Longfellow understands the depression of having a spouse dying. He also did not write for a couple of years after his wife died. Longfellow is also poet who had many successful poems like Poe. Comment by Sami Horsley and Samantha Krampe

Poe was an excellent literary writer of his time with many excellent works. I do enjoy many of the works in which you have listed in your section. I can agree with Poe being a great contributor to the literary renaissance.

  3. Joseph Smith: Smith does not agree with Poe's lifestyle. Smith believed in practicing a celibate life. Smith also believed in being in communion with God; unlike Poe, who was an atheist.

  4. Melville: Edgar Allan Poe, we both flourished during the Literary Renaissance. We are very famous and prestigious writers even to this day. We changed the way society would forever work. You created the copyright law, while I created one of America’s most known novels.
